The Under-18s men fell out of the Playoffs Saturday night at very hospitable Premier side Newcastle Eagles. Ipswich travelled the night before and watched the BBL game at their invitation.

The Suffolk side started well taking an 8-0 lead but ended the quarter tied at 16-16. It was clear from early on that this was going to be a game of equally talented players and it certainly led up to the billing. The lead went back and forth throughout the second period, and Ipswich took a slender 36-38 lead into the half-time break.

Turnovers and foul trouble led to a third quarter loss of 6 points, and Noel Lambert’s side went into the fourth 55-51 behind. With everything to play for, the forth quarter continued as an exchange of baskets but Newcastle made the three-pointers stick and Ipswich couldn’t, eventually succumbing to the 80-71 loss.

“A tough loss, in what was a fantastic game of basketball,” said Coach Lambert after the game. “But being so far from home and it being the first time most of these players had been to the playoffs, that made it a harder pill to swallow.”

Top scorers were Ben Winter (30 points) and Ethan Price (28).
