Greig City Academy suffered their first loss of 2017 as visitors Copleston had a blistering first quarter en route to a convincing 41-75 win on the road.
Copleston went on the rampage early with Freya Cooney scoring eight of her 17 points in a 17-0 opening for the visitors before GCA got onto the scoreboard after seven minutes.
The home side adjusted to a zone defence in the second period and it was a closer affair before managing to edge the third period, although the damage had already been done with Copleston holding for a comfortable win.
“It’s disappointing as the host team to get off to such a poor start,” said Dan Bowmaker, “We have to credit Copleston’s defence to challenge our best shooters as we didn’t make a 3 pointer until the end of the third quarter, and that’s not like us.”
Precious Adediran finished with 12 points for GCA, while Beatrice Nwabuokei, Victoria Somoye and Rachel Achunine each had 10. Ashleigh Pink added 16 points to Cooney’s game-high haul of 17.
