With this weekend’s game at home to Liverpool called off by the visitors during the week, Ipswich took the opportunity to get in an extra session and work on shooting and conditioning.
As the team look ahead to next weekend’s game at London Westside, assistant coach John Ellis feels the squad are well and truly over last weekend’s last-gasp home defeat to Derbyshire Arrows.
“Obviously, the manner of the defeat last weekend was really tough to take,” he said.
“Those buzzer-beating game winners are very rare, but they do happen, and we’ll want to be on the other end of it next time.
“We’ve had two excellent training sessions since then, and everyone can see the chemistry around the team improving from one session to the next.”
Ipswich are likely to be without captain Tom Sadler in London but other than that have a full squad to select from. In Sadler’s absence, the coaching staff will take the opportunity to assess their other frontcourt options.
“Tom’s a big loss and we miss him when he’s not in the line-up,” added Ellis. “But we know that between Leigh Greenan, Daniel Caluico and Colin Dockrell we’ve got a ton of experience up front, and plenty of athleticism and energy off the bench in Joshua Apple and Jonny Hall.”
Ipswich’s Division II campaign now sits at 0-1 pending resolution of the Liverpool fixture. The seniors are next at Copleston on Saturday, November 5th, when they host Nottingham Hoods, who knocked Ipswich out of last season’s playoffs. That game will tip at 5pm.
