Three top Ipswich Basketball Academy prospects will be having their progress tracked this season as members of the Deng Top 50 camp and rankings for the 2016-17 season.
Caleb Fuller, Josh Apple and Rory Winter participated in a three-day camp at Crystal Palace last week, with Rory’s team winning the camp league, and Caleb and Josh getting the opportunity to play in the All-Star game in front of a Facebook live-stream audience.
The camp, head-coached by ex-NBA point guard Royal Ivey and with leading British coaches on hand, is a prime opportunity for elite British youngsters to get some exposure in front of international scouts, with previous camp attendees going on to play across Europe and North America, including fellow IBA products Luke Mascall-Wright and Sam Newman.
Having participated in the initial camp and been ‘ranked’ on their performances (with both Josh and Caleb inside the top 20), the trio will now be tracked by Deng Camp staff across the season, keeping the rating updated.
“The camp is a great opportunity for our country’s top players to really showcase what they can do, and allows them to gain some great exposure to the next level,” said Men’s Academy head coach Tom Sadler. “The staff at the camp work incredibly hard to give our players the best honest and unbiased players evaluations, which is crucial for these young players’ development over the course of this coming season.”
