Ipswich Basketball Club has announced that Portuguese seniors Edson Ferreira and Daniel Caliuco will both return for the 2016-17 season.
Ferreira, who closed last season as the starting point guard, and Caliuco, a high-intensity forward, were key recruits in the spring and club head coach Nick Drane is thrilled to have both players back on board for a full season.
“It’s so important that we’ve been able to bring these two model professionals back for the new season. Eddie and Danny were fantastic as soon as they arrived last season, and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to retain both players. They are excellent role models for our junior programme, both experienced professionals who have played at the highest level back in Portugal.”
The pair will continue to feature heavily in the senior team this season, with Ferreira likely to continue his starting role at point guard and Caliuco being relied upon to play big minutes and be a defensive presence.
“Eddie will continue to work in the academy alongside his playing responsibilities, so the kids get an opportunity every day to work with both him and Tom Sadler and see the level needed to make it to our senior team.”
Ferreira will also continue to have a role in the development of Ipswich’s Playgrounds to Pros community programme, sponsored by Scrutton Bland.
